The Museum

The Folklore Museum of Acharavi was inaugurated in October 2008 in a building of more than 1,000 square metres. The owner and visionary creator, Mr Spyros Vlachos, has been collecting, maintaining and promoting with endless care, joy and attention local folk objects of particular historical interest for the last 25 years.

The permanent exhibition of the museum is located in two rooms. The objects, which have been mainly donated, are organized in zones concerning the main local activities.

The museum has a rich collection comprising of:

Photographic material, books and documents dating back to 1862 and a specialized numismatic collection from the period of the Ionian Islands independent state (19thcentury), Local costumes dating back to 1800, folk house furniture, a cart, a harrow, a plow and other agricultural objects, a traditional olive press, shoe-maker’s and carpenter’s workshops, wine and distilled alcohol producing devices, a traditional kitchen space, a traditional bedroom, a religious space and much more.



Beyond the permanent exhibition area of the Museum, there is also a Conference room equipped with state-of-the art audiovisual devices especially designed for educational and cultural projects, lectures and temporary exhibitions. There is also a traditional coffee house as well as a permanent exhibition of traditional products and woven and embroidered handicrafts.
